Venom – Mini Statue
By the Summer of 2018, I had made nearly a dozen LEGO statues for conventions. Some found homes in other places, some fell apart over time, and others were just trashed. I wanted to make a statue that took up less space, was more significant than a regular LEGO minifig, and something I could keep to decorate the house. I decided to make a LEGO statue that was only 18″ tall. My daughter was really looking forward to the Venom movie releasing later that year so I secretly built this 18″ statue for display in her room.
I made the mini statue with similar techniques as the bigger statues but I had to scale everything down.
Instead of the PVC pipes running through the big statues, all of the parts needed to stick together with simple friction. For the arms, I added wooden dowel rods that let the arms slip into the torso and can rotate freely.
For the hips, I added a large cardboard box that slips into the bottom of the torso piece to hold it in place.
I added a long tongue to the model.
Each of the 5 tentacles was made from two pieces of floormat foam glued together and then shaped to remove the floor mat texture.
All 4 tentacles were glued together and attached with a wooden dowel rod into the back of the torso. I added the white spider logo from the comic books and the mini statue was complete. One evening while she was out of her room, I placed it on her bookshelf and within in minutes of returning to her room and seeing it she was excited. |
