LEGO Indiana Jones Costume
After going through a list of dozens of characters, my son and I finally settled on doing an Indiana Jones costume. Indiana Jones was one of my favorite action characters as a kid so I’m glad I got to do this one. I will suggest in the future that no one should ever work on a costume for a character with a theme song. I kept humming the Indiana Jones theme song throughout the entire build. I’m humming it now just thinking about it.
You can’t do an Indy costume without a whip and a gun. Since I knew I wanted to do the version of Indy from Raiders of the Lost Ark, I thought I needed to add the idol from the opening sequence. |

The gun was a combination of PVC pipe and foam. This is modeled after the LEGO version of the revolver. I used a vector graphics program to trace out a pattern of the gun. For the barrel I used a 3/4″ (inner diameter) PVC pipe and the handle was a 1″ diameter PVC pipe. The rest of the gun is layers of foam shaped with a rotary tool. |
I free handed the spiral onto a paper template and then used the template to cut out two pieces of TNT Cosplay foam. I added some more foam to make the handle thicker on each end. I then used a rotary tool to round out the edges to make it look like rope. |
The idol is all foam with a wooden dowel rod in the middle. The dowel pulls down to allow my son to hold the idol from the bottom so he’s not putting finger prints on the prop. The dowel rod can also be pushed up into the idol so the idol can sit on a flat surface. | |||
The final costume debuted at NC Comicon in March. It got lots of positive responses from attendees.
Since my Thor statue is still in my house and I’m a fan of The Big Bang Theory, I had to take the opportunity for a “Thor and Doctor Jones” pic. |
